Busy Beez Calendar App
Time is a precious commodity for busy families and tracking multiple schedules between work and family members can be a tedious and time-consuming task. Busy Beez looks to make calendars easier for individuals and families.
The Problem
There are numerous calendar and planning apps in the market and available, but research showed there is not yet a calendar tailored to meet the specific needs of families juggling work, school, and sports schedules for both themselves and their children.
The most-requested features uncovered in the research are available separately across different calendar app offerings, but users struggled to find an all-inclusive app tailored to meet their needs.
The Objective
There are numerous competitive products in the market, but we are looking to differentiate our application on the level of personalization and customization available to users, with a heavy focus on notification personalization and ease-of-use when adding events.
Discovery
User and market research was conducted to determine:
What apps are users currently using?
In those apps, what critical features are missing?
What features are competitors currently offering?
The research uncovered most requested features that are missing in current apps:
Personalized notifications per family member
Ability to set automatic reminders, specifically 2nd and 3rd reminders, for other family members
Ability to set RSVP status for each invitee/attendee on events
Conceptualize
After discovery, concept ideation began with heavy focus on:
Diagramming content structure and hierarchy
Screenflow and navigation mapping

Constraints
Emulated and actual constraints for this project included:
Time: Seven weeks alotted to design and develop fully interactive prototype deliverable
Research: Given the seven week course timeline, it was necessary to rely on existing research conducted; updated research was out of scope for this project
To accommodate the constraints, I...
Shared work quickly and often; getting comfortable sharing works-in-progress to helped to get feedback faster and iterate in a more agile manner
Identified and focused on key user flows that were most important to a majority of users
Design Highlights
Overall design highlights to meet user needs:
Voice-to-text entry for quick event entry
Ability to personalize notifications and reminders
RSVP feature for events
Lessons Learned
Throughout the work in this project, I took away two important lessons of note:
Iterate and get feedback quickly
Don’t make all prototype connections until you’re starting to firm up and finalize the interactions!
