ReminderX App

ReminderX is a startup software company that currently has built and launched a simple to-do list and reminder app for iPhone and Android phones.

The Problem

ReminderX isn’t sure where to go from here but they do know they want to be more than a generic to-do list and reminder app.

The Objective

ReminderX has a fully functioning to-do list and reminder application compatible with both iPhone and Android mobile devices; however, the current offering is limited in that it only offers the basics. The ReminderX team is ready to take their app to the next level with enhancements that will differentiate itself from competitor apps.

Discovery

The goals of this research were to gain an understanding of users. We were looking to discover:

  • How they are currently tracking reminders and to-do items

  • Identify features they like and features they do not like

  • Uncover ideal features that competitors are not currently meeting

Conceptualize

After the research was conducted, the results were analyzed and compiled into a design brief.  This deliverable provided the team with an overview of the research, a synthesis of the results across participants, and conclusions about what target users want and need, based on the results of the research sessions.

Constraints

The constraints for this project included short timeframes for an end-to-end UX project and difficulty recruiting and scheduling research participants.

Design Highlights

The design tenets that came from research drove the designs:

  • QUICK: Opening and logging into the app should be easy, seamless, and fast. Users can add events, to-do’s and reminders using voice-to-text

  • SHAREABLE: Users should be able to create and share a family account with others

  • PERSONALIZED: Allow users to set dashboard views, reminder frequency, method of reminder delivery, set reminders for others within the account, adjust text sizes and categories and/or colors

Lessons Learned
  • Don't aim for perfection; iteration is about brainstorming as many solutions and ideas as possible without getting too focused on minute details during this phase.

  • Eliciting feedback and critiques on your work, early and often, will generate a better end-product than working in a vacuum.

  • Be curious and ask questions.
